Historically, there is official record of the designation "spaghetto" in the first dictionary of the Italian language by Nicolò Tommaseo and Bernardo Bellini (1819). Here "spaghetto" is incorporated as "masculine singular diminutive of bramante thread", and it mentions the "Spaghetti Soup: which are pastas the thickness of a thin bramante thread and long like sopracapellini". A curiosity: in 1957 the BBC aired the first documentary about spaghetti production and the day after, the BBC studios received numerous phone calls from viewers asking for the names of producers and distributors of this type of pasta to buy them.
